AWS Joins The Responsible AI Institute As Member to Advance Responsible AI Standards

Responsible AI Institute (RAI Institute) is thrilled to welcome a new corporate member: Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS is dedicated to advancing the responsible development and deployment of AI by helping transform responsible use of AI from theory into practice. In addition to joining the RAI Institute, AWS demonstrates its commitment and leadership with the recently announced AWS AI Service Cards, a new resource to enhance transparency. RAI Institute is a recognized leader in the development of conformity assessment schemes for AI systems and AWS believes that this important work will accelerate the safe adoption of AI for consumers and businesses. By joining RAI Institute, AWS will help to define and advance the important and necessary adoption of responsible AI.

“With over tens of thousands of customers using AI and ML services, AWS is uniquely situated to help demonstrate the importance of applying standards across the AI development lifecycle,” said Ashley Casovan, Executive Director of RAI Institute. “We are encouraged by AWS’s support to ensure the responsible use of AI throughout the development lifecycle—from design to deployment, especially as the demand for both adoption and regulation for AI increases across industries. We look forward to collaborating closely with AWS and help advance the use of responsible and transparent AI.”

“The responsible use of AI is a priority for AWS and for our customers. We believe that leadership in developing and deploying AI responsibly requires earning consumers trust,” said Nicole Foster, Director, Public Policy at AWS. “Standards will play a key role to build trust and help our customers navigate the evolving regulatory landscape. AWS is committed to offering the best in class features, expertise, and tools to help customers build more responsibly– and provide more transparency and clarity on emerging standards. Together with RAI Institute, we are excited to collaborate on tools that will help operationalize responsible use of AI and accelerate its adoption.”

Looking ahead to 2023, as AWS joins the RAI Institute community, significant efforts will be made to drive the adoption and development of standards and industry best practices for responsible use, development, and deployment of AI systems. AWS and RAI Institute both participate in international standards development practices and together will highlight the importance of necessary alignment for the safe and fair use of AI.
